Wow, it’s been a minute since my last outfit post! One thing I miss about working in retail is getting to dress up everyday and always having new content for you guys. I do dress up often but always forget to snap a pic. So today, I embraced Read More
You guys, I am so excited to share this post with you today because I feel like I have really hit the athletic-wear jackpot. As I mentioned in my 14 Adult-ish Birthday Resolutions post, I recently took up boxing. And my weekly goal is to make 3-4 classes per week. Now as much as I love working out I don’t think I could wake up at 5 am to do it every morning before work (kudos to you if you can!). With that being said, I am usually racing Read More
I recently spoke about the difficulties that comes with dressing for summer. I don’t know about you but some days I want to skip jeans and go straight to my workout pants. (Even if I’m too lazy to go to the gym!) Lucky for us, athleisure is having a huge moment in the fashion world. And I don’t think there is a trend I agree with more.
The hardest part about wearing athleisure inspired wear is actually styling it. There is a certain formula you must follow in order to obtain the perfect outfit. Because it is way too easy to look like you are just being too lazy to get dressed up. You must always keep the outfit balanced. And by that I mean, always incorporate a more casual dressy article of clothing into your athleisure look. This saves you from looking like you just came straight from the gym and actually put some thought into your outfit. Below are photos of celebrities styling their looks in a more sporty fashion. You will also find a list of do’s and don’t’s while creating a look.
Do: Dress up your joggers with a leather jacket or cropped blue jean.
Don’t: Wear joggers anywhere special. They work for running errands and brunching but not for parties or nights out. Unless you are Kylie Jenner or Gigi Hadid. In that case, you can wear whatever you want.
Tip: Keep the rest of your outfit just as casual. Notice the way Jules, from Sincerely Jules, styles her grey joggers with a matching grey sweatshirt and finishes it off with a leather jacket. Leather jackets work wonders. (Side note: invest in a leather jacket.)
Do: Dress up your athleisure inspired pieces. Think bomber jackets and sleek tennis shoes.
Don’t: Try to incorporate more than one sporty piece if you are trying to go for a dressy look. Either choose the jacket or the shoes. Not both.
Do: Pair track pants with booties.
Don’t: Go too colorful.
Tip: When styling this look, try to keep it monochromatic. See Gigi Hadid’s style for inspiration. Gigi Hadid = The ultimate athleisure babe.
Do: Keep up with trends.
Don’t: As ridiculous as this sounds, athletic wear does go out of style. Mesh pants and panel inlays use to be big, but not anymore. Now we are seeing color blocking and bigger placement patterns.
Tip: Turn to recent athletic inspired fashion shows for tips. Stella McCartney X Adidas is a great brand to find inspiration from.
Do: Invest in performance fabrics with good quality.
Don’t: Buy an inexpensive pair of tights. More than likely, you’ll be over exposed if you bend a certain way.
Tip: Look at brands like Adidas for cool quilted patterns. I also like Fabletics, which is affordable. I live by these leggings y’all. They make everything look firm and don’t inch down. They make me look like I’ve hit the gym, even when I really haven’t.
