Rule of the Four S’s

We’ve all been there, we see a book with a pretty cover and buy it swearing to ourselves that we will dive into it later. And when we never get around to actually reading, we feel no shame. This one particular book I’ve broken that stereotype with. It is called, How to Live Like a Lady: Lessons in Life, Manners, and Style. I got it from Anthropologie and have actually read through it a few times absorbing quit interesting things. One thing that this book stresses is to live your life by the “Rule of the four Ss.” This book tells you everything from how many kisses are expected in each country to how to kill a job interview. I suggest you pick yourself up a copy.

A Few Things I’ve Learned:

  • When at a dinner party, drink a class of water to match every glass of wine. Don’t get drunk!
  • Ways to break the ice, take a tip from a hairdresser and study small-talk ideas. Remember, never ask anything personal!
  • When receiving a compliment, don’t divulge unnecessary information and draw the moment out, just smile and give a sincere thank you.
  • Positive body language: eye contact, open palms, legs crossed at ankles, smiling and nodding.
  • Negative body language: hunched shoulders, folded arms, no eye contact, turned away from speaker.
  • In order to make your entrance stand out, walk through the door and pause for a second and then continue moving away from the doorway. No fiddling in your pockets!
  • When exiting a car, you should edge your bottom all the way along the back seat until your are balancing on the corner, swing both legs out of the car together and place onto the ground. Next, use both hands to push off of the seat below you standing up.
  • Sitting in a skirt: cross your legs at the knee and then tuck the front foot behind the back ankle.
  • Sitting in pants: cross your legs at the ankle.
  • When finishing a meal, lay your utensils parallel in the center of the plate with the handles toward you.

Getting the Perfect Pout

The most annoying thing ever is when you’re at a party and you have to keep digging through your clutch because your lipstick is wearing off. You’ve tried the lip stains but honestly you have commitment issues so there is no way you will stick with the same lip color for more than twelve hours. I know, by now you are probably thinking Y IS GIRL-LIFE SO HARD. Fear no more, this is the only way to master the art of lip-locking 😉

  1. After applying your lipstick, purse your lips and put your finger between them, inside your mouth. Now pull your finger out gently. Any excess lipstick should smudge onto your finger.
  2. After applying a bright shade, blot your lips with a tissue, then reapply and blot again to build color.
  3. Seal your lipstick by peeling apart a tissue into a single-ply placing one fine sheet of it on your lips, and dusting translucent powder over the top.
  4. Voila!

Beauty Secrets

In today’s day and age, it is almost impossible to go to a place like Sephora and find what you are looking for within an hour (well at least for me). I always feel so overwhelmed by the thousands of choices at hand that I feel like a kid in a candy store. But I’ve realized that over the last few years I find myself returning to the same products each time. I guess you could say these are my beauty rituals. I hope you love them as much as I do. xx

Burt’s Bees Chap-stick

Confession: the only reason I use this chap-stick is because it makes my lips tingle, within an hour I will probably re-coat about ten times, the obsessions is real.

Maracuja Oil

If I was only allowed to use one beauty product for the rest of my life I’d chose this one. I apply it at night and wake up the next morning with radiant, moisturized skin. I recommend to buy it now and keep in bulk.

UO Neutrals Collection Nail Polish

My go-to nail colors are usually those along the neutral side. If I’m feeling adventurous or get my nails done for a specific event I’ll go for a more exciting color but for day to day use you’ll find me with this Le Marais shade from Urban Outfitters.

Dual Finish Versatile Powder & Foundation

Dual Finish

I like this powder because it covers everything without looking too obvious. I even find that I have a little bit of rosacea on my cheeks which doesn’t show through with this powder on top. It also blends perfectly into my skin leaving no visible streaks.

Thierry Mugler Angel Lotion

This is a rather new addition to my collection. I was buying this perfume for a friend for Christmas when the sales lady convinced me to purchase my own travel size. She said this is the perfume most people switch to after using Coco Chanel’s Mademoiselle. I keep it in my purse because its the perfect scent for when you want something light and airy.

Clarisonic Skin Cleansing System

I remember getting this as a Christmas present two years ago and being obsessed with it. I preferred this face cleaner over my new Kate Spade bag. Weird, right? It is just one of those things that makes you feel so clean and refreshed after using it. I usually use it with Cetaphil face wash.

Retractable Brow Pencil

After discovering Lily Collins and her eyebrows I was so obsessed. I wanted some just like them but knew I would never have them. So, I discovered this retractable brow pencil which is like my holy grail. Even on days when I choose to go makeup-less I still use it because I find it makes me look so much more alive. My shade is Nutmeg Brown.

Friday Fives: Beauty Secrets

Everyone has their own beauty secrets and trust me I’ve collected lots over the years. I’ve only been dawning makeup for about six years and my routine changes every four months or so. Over this past year I’ve developed a large adoration for the five products below that I must share with you all.

Vaseline Spray & Go

This stuff is literally hand crafted by Angels. It’s the best beauty products since liquid liner and we all know how amazing that is. My friends and I have become so obsessed with it that one of them applied it so obsessively that they broke out in hives (I permit that you make sure you are not allergic before applying). Best part: it’s only $7 at Target.

Lancome Face Powder

Over all my years of wearing makeup this has to be my favorite face powder. It goes on smoothly and gives off an airbrushed feel. You can purchase it for $38.50 at any Lancome and varying Sephora stores.

“Better Than Sex” Mascara

This mascara is the most natural looking mascara I’ve come across thus far. It evenly spreads along my lashes while adding the perfect amount of length.

Miss Dior by Christian Dior

A friend bought me this for my birthday after watching me spritz myself with it every single time we passed it in the mall. It smells heavenly. Like the sweetest mix between Chanel and Jasmine Glam by Michael Kors. [Watch the enchanting video here.]

Clarisonic Face Cleansing Brush

I got this for Christmas two years ago and out of everything it was my favorite. It is the absolute best thing to clean your face because it works deep within the surface. And we all know how important it is to completely clean your face.
