I recently wrote about my thoughts on our perception of a modern Valentine’s day. I hope you all read it and understand what I mean when I speak about materializing a holiday (to a certain extent). The other day, I was having a conversation with a guy (basically a stranger) who was telling me about his girlfriend’s Valentine’s gifts. Yes I mean “gifts,” as in plural. He said, “I bought her a dress, earrings, a matching necklace and perfume. And I’ll get her flowers of course.” The whole time I was thinking to myself Read More
For those people who don’t pay close attention to the fashion world, they are more than likely mind boggled by the fact that we have months dedicated to fashion shows which aren’t relevant to us until a season later. It is tricky when it comes to remembering the trends but totally necessary to make sure you stay ahead. In case you forgot, here are some of the best beauty trends from Fall / Winter 2015.
HAIR – Accessories
Proenza Schouler/ Prada
Looks like we are finally learning a thing or two from the Queen B herself: Blair Waldorf. Keep your hair accessories in bulk whether its to add personality to an outfit or dress up for a special occasion. Think pretty hair ties, broaches, velvet bows.
HAIR – SIMPLE PONY
Fendi / Kenzo
There is nothing sleeker than a clean low ponytail. Let’s leave it at that. Try this Sleek & Shine Moroccan Sleek Oil Treatment ($5.99) to keep your hair shiny and free from any fly-aways.
Hair – Mid Knot
By using a texture gel, you can update any outfit to an instant cool by simple wrapping and knotting. This gives a new unconventional look to the infamous topknot. Make sure to keep it styled towards the back of your head or lower to keep up the trend.
Rodarte / Carolina Herrara
Of course this trend was shown more dramatically on the runway but the two pictures shown above are more wearable. This is a great way to add personality to a simple outfit. I for one love the idea of smearing it along the bottom of your lid as seen in Rodarte. Experiment with Magnificent Metals Foil Finish Eye Shadow ($32)
EYES – Color / Texture
Russardi / Dior
This is one of those trends that I think is so cool but could never pull off. I feel like if I ever tried this it would look like a #tbt to when I was six and had one of those makeup sets with shades in every color.
LIPS – Burgandy & Wine
Ungaro / Carolina Herrara
This is one of the most unsurprising trends that you’ll notice each Fall and Winter. When I see girls donning dark shades on their lips I say one of two things it’s winter time or go you for rocking the dark unapproachable look.
If you watched the first second episode of House of DVF (my obsession) then you know the exact girl that I’m talking about. Her name is Hanna Beth and she wore dark burgundy lipstick the first time she met Dianna which made her so bad a** and made me want to be her. Oil Infusion Color & Care ($14).
NAILS – Abstract
This is by far one of the coolest nail trends I’ve ever seen. I’m a big fan of art therefore I love the abstract look of this trend. It’s so simple and clean yet eye-catching.
Which trend is your favorite?
The last time I wrote about my daily face routine the feedback was so positive that I decided to do a part two. Even though it has only been a month and six days, my skin has never felt/looked so refreshed. Since my last post, I’ve upgraded my nightly routine (thanks to my mom’s generous gifts) and have fallen in love. I now use a Clinique three piece set every night followed by the face wash and sunscreen in the mornings. Here are the products I swear by:
VS: I use this foaming face wash first thing in the morning and right before I go to sleep at night. Its silky as I apply it to my face and leaves it feeling smooth and refreshed. I feel like I just got a facial every time I use it! ($20)
VS: Out of the three step system, this is my favorite product. You sweep it over your face with a cotton ball and it cleans all of the remaining residue, flakey dry skin and any left over makeup. It’s purpose it to clarify your face and prepare it for the third step — moisturizer. ($23)
VS: I like this moisturizer because its fluffy and light. It doesn’t take a lot to apply to your face so you will get a lot of use out of this product. I only use this product at night because I find that it makes my face look oily if I layer it under my makeup during the day. ($26)
VS: I’ll be completely honest with you guys, the only reason I use this is because my mom won’t stop nagging me about “protecting my skin.” I don’t like to layer this product under my makeup either because it makes me face sticky and doesn’t flow well. But when I know my face is going to be exposed to the sun, I’ll skip face makeup and just apply this. ($21.50)
Which Clinique products do you swear by?
I am a firm believer in the phrase “treat yo self.” So when I came across this body scrub I instantly fell in love. Frank is a fun twist on the ordinary body scrub. It is primarily made of coffee beans leaving you with a fresh java smell. Frank is easy for girls on the go who will rejoice at the short 5-10 minute body scrub. This Aussie beauty starts at $14.95! It can be used as much as 3-5 times a week. Talk about a bang for you buck. Not to mention, it is vegan friendly and “only tested on babes.” Cannot wait to continue getting dirty! xoxo -Alyssa
My friends always ask me how I keep my skin so clear. I usually reply with a laugh and say “good genetics” but there’s always more to it. Every girl has their own products that they swear by and I think it’s imperative that we share them with each other so we can make each other feel as confident as we can. These are the products that are inhabited into my daily/nightly routines.
I have a bad habit of not keeping a good face cleanser on hand so sometimes I end up using Dove soap and water. But when I’m not slacking, this SkinCeuticals cleanser is my favorite. I use it at night and then in the morning to get rid of any excess oils. ($34)
I’m a busy girl, so sometimes I forgot to moisturize my face at night which can cause a big problem in the long run. But this SkinCeuticals moisturizer works almost magically overnight and is well worth the price. ($61)
The only time I get acne is around “that time of the month” and that’s why I love this little tube of perfection. I apply a pea size amount directly onto the needed areas right before bed and it clears it up by morning. The best part is that you can get it from your local drugstore for less than $7. (Vary)
This little product works hand-in-hand with the acne spot treatment (shown above). It soothes the acne while the other product works on destroying it. You apply this directly to the troubled spot following the Clean & Clear Advantage Acne Spot Treatment. (Vary)
I hope that some of these products work for you!
I’d love to know if you have any rituals you live by.
