5 Tips for a Productive Desk

Not a day goes by that we don’t want to be successful. It runs through our blood. Success depends on your surroundings. Whether you like it or not, you won’t get anything done if your workspace is a mess. One thing that I find is common ground for everyone is their ability to work in a clean environment. Friends always tell me stories about how they go to study or write a paper but get side tracked by the mess that surrounds them. Before you know it, you’ve spent the last hour and a half cleaning your room. With finals week approaching, it is time to tidy up our lives. But to do so, you need a little inspiration. And let’s face it, your surroundings need to be organized and chic if you want to get any work done. 😉

#1: Make it Personal

If you’re going to spend long hours at your desk, you’ll want it to bring you a little bit of joy. Decorate your desk with things that make you smile. Whether that be a framed picture of you and your best friend or a neat trinket you picked up while traveling out of the country. One of the best (and most organized) ways to do this is with a cork board. You can pin up sweet letters from friends, photo booth pictures, reminders, etc. IDEA: buy a large piece of cheap cork board and get it nicely framed for a sophisticated look.

#2: Keep it Clean

Reiterating what I said before, it is difficult to work in a messy space. I don’t know if this is just me but it is difficult for me to stay productive when there are a lot of things surrounding me. That means keep the desktop accessories to a minimum. Another trick would be to keep your surroundings crisp. Meaning lots of whites, woods, and other neutral colors. The best way to stray from Maham is with desk accessories.

#3: Keep it Quirky

Your desk is where you will be spending most of your time, therefore, your desk should reflect you. You’ve got a fun personality? Make it colorful and bright. You want this space to keep you motivated and draw you in. Our goal is to make it so fun, you’ll never want to leave.

#4: Create a Scheme

Let’s be real. Your desk needs to be Snapchat or ‘Gram ready at any moment. What better way to achieve this than by creating a color scheme? Obviously our current go-to is marble and gold. Because well, who’s isn’t?

Now that we’ve got the decorating part to the T, it’s time to think about comfort. (Don’t judge my priorities.) There are plenty of smart chairs out there designed for both comfort and style. You just have to look in the right places so you don’t end up burning a hole in your wallet. Check out places like Overstock (shown below), CB2, and TJ Maxx.
